In today's day and age, I hear parents constantly complaining about their kids being glued to their smartphones and completely disconnected from the world around them. I see kids, mostly teens, lack basic social skills yet when these same kids are on social media, they're complete "keyboard gangsters." What does this have to do with fitness? Give me a few minutes and you'll see what I mean. You can be strong and not explosive, but you can't be explosive without being strong. At Overdrive Fitness, we work to make all of our athletes strong AND explosive. We make sure that are our athletes are not only increasing muscle mass and absolute strength, but also relative strength. ![]() Every summer since the inception of Overdrive Fitness, we have hosted a 6 week speed camp called Maximum Overdrive. It's a 5 day per week camp that is designed to increase the overall strength of each athlete as well as improving each athlete's speed, agility, flexibility, mobility, muscular endurance, and cardiovascular endurance. Athletes from all types of sports ranging from football and soccer to cross-country and gymnastics participate in our camp. Through careful, meticulous programming, Overdrive Fitness' training methods continue to produce high accolade achieving athletes as well champion athletes. How is it done? Well to simply put it, we work to create strong athletes, then build upon that strength to create explosive athletes. Even with our proven track record, there are still plenty of parents not committing their children to our programs because they believe that a simple gym membership is enough for their children… you know, the same children that spend 3 hours a day, 6 days a week at the gym in which 40% of those 3 hours are spent taking selfies, talking, and just flat out doing nothing. The same athletes that do biceps every day, max out their bench every week, avoid legs, and never make any gains of any type. The same athletes that'll waste a ton of time talking smack on other people's Instagram accounts instead of focusing on their own personal improvement. To top it all off, we often get the following excuse coupled with these wasted gym memberships: "I'm just gonna go to the cheap guy at the track 5 days a week." To reiterate the main point stated earlier: YOU CAN BE STRONG AND NOT EXPLOSIVE, BUT YOU CAN'T BE EXPLOSIVE WITHOUT BEING STRONG. Parents, if your children aren't getting stronger, then how do you expect them to get any faster, quicker, or more explosive? If your kids are just running and never lifting, how are their muscles ever being pushed to grow? The only athletes that can get faster without much focus on increasing strength are elite level sprinters. Elite level sprinters are WORLD CLASS sprinters (not to be confused with Division III or lower sprinters and that's with ZERO disrespect to any sprinter that isn't world class). With rapidly growing popularity of powerlifting and weightlifting due to social media, there is tons of misinformation out there. A lot of these self-proclaimed "experts" and "gurus" constantly try to jam their modalities down everyone's throat because they believe that their way is the only way. At Overdrive Fitness, we will scale and program our workouts accordingly as each athlete that walks through our doors may have different goals, needs, and limitations than the next. If you are serious about getting a real return on investment of your time AND money, then join Overdrive Fitness today. Through the small groups of our Speed School, every athlete will get the attention that he or she needs in order to reach their full potential.
